The Academy was founded to assist providers and associated health care practitioners to recognize and embrace the evidence that multiple sleep disorders have a direct and adverse effect on the cardiovascular system. At present, the opportunity and role of the physicians in this convergence are ill defined and warrant an evolutionary team approach consisting of sleep physicians and cardiologists working cooperatively with allied health professionals to tackle this healthcare crisis. The Mission of the Academy is to bridge this gap through education and networking to align cardiology and sleep practices under one coordinated philosophy.
