About the Presenter:
Shahrokh Javaheri, MD, is a sleep physician, in the Division of Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine, Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati, Professor Emeritus of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, University of Cincinnati College of Medicine Cincinnati, Ohio, and Adjunct Professor of Medicine, Division of Cardiology, Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio.
He is internationally known for his research on various sleep disorders including sleep apnea and cardiovascular disease, with emphasis on heart failure, opioids-associated sleep apnea, and complex sleep apnea.
He completed his clinical and research fellowship in pulmonary medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He joined University of Cincinnati in 1983 and established a clinical and research sleep lab at VA Medical Centre where he performed extensive research in the areas of sleep-related breathing disorders and cardiovascular diseases.
His research studies have been published in many peer–reviewed journals such as New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, Annals of Internal Medicine, Circulation, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, SLEEPJ, Thorax, American Journal of Medicine, European Heart Journal, Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine, CHEST, European Respiratory Journal, American Journal of Respiratory Critical Care Medicine.
Dr. Javaheri has given 292 national and international lectures in many countries including China, Japan, Sweden, Finland, New Zealand, Iceland, South Korea, Australia, Italy, Austria, Germany, France, Scotland, Denmark, Brazil, Belgium, Netherlands, Canada, Argentina, Chile, Spain, Tunisia, India, Oman, and Iran.
In 2019, he was honored, and delivered The Thomas L. Petty, MD, Master FCCP Memorial Lecture: Treatment of central sleep apnea in HFrEF with low flow oxygen at the annual meeting of the American College of Chest Physicians. In 2020 and 2021, he was honored with the Distinguished CHEST Educator Award. In 2024, he was honored receiving The Excellence In Research Award, at the Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. The award is named after the great Dr. William Dement.
He is on the editorial Board of the journal SLEEP and the associate editor of the journal Frontier in Sleep Medicine. He is the Section Editor for Sleep-related Breathing Disorders and Cardiovascular Diseases in the Principles and Practice of Sleep Medicine, the premier textbook of sleep and sleep disorders.
