Presenter: Alex McKinlay, Board-certified in Otolaryngology and Sleep Medicine
About the Presenter:
After graduating from the United States Military Academy at West Point, Dr. McKInlay attended medical school at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, in Bethesda, MD. His interest in surgery brought him to San Antonio, TX, where he completed a surgical internship and Otolaryngology residency at Brooke Army Medical Center and Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center. Since coming to TX in 2004, he has never left!
Over the years as a practicing board-certified Otolaryngologist in Texas, Dr. McKinlay has enjoyed caring for thousands of patients diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). One of the most rewarding aspects of his career has been partnering with these patients and watching the transformation in their lives when OSA is effectively treated. Convinced that additional training and education would enable him to provide the best possible care for patients, Dr. McKinlay completed a Fellowship in Sleep Medicine within the San Antonio Military Health System. He has been a clinician-leader within the Military Health System for nearly 20 years and served as the Deputy Chair of the Department of Surgery at Brooke Army Medical Center for 3 years.
By its very nature, Sleep Medicine is a collaborative field; Dr. McKinlay is proud to be a part of a professional community that prioritizes partnerships and teamwork to optimize patient care – by combining the complementary expertise of the dental, medical, and surgical worlds! He provides a full spectrum of surgical services encompassing all otolaryngology procedures involving the upper airway (septoplasty, turbinate reduction, functional rhinoplasty, tonsillectomy, various forms of palate surgery), as well as advanced surgical care for Obstructive Sleep Apnea to include Upper Airway Stimulation / the “Inspire” procedure.
